As political campaigns for 2023 general elections kicks off, the traditional ruler of Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Augustin Nwankwo, has charged political leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and other parties contesting for the elections to avoid using abusive words and other actions capable of affecting the outcome of the country’s 2023 electoral process.
Igwe Nwankwo also appealed to politicians not to interfere in the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the process unfolds.
The monarch who spoke over the weekend at his palace, during the celebration of this year 2022 New Yam Festival in the community, advised the youths not to allow themselves to be used by do-or-die politicians to cause violence during the campaign and election proper.
According to him, we all know that the 2023 general election will be tough, because of the calibre of politicians contesting the poll, starting from the presidency down to the State Assemblies, but that should not give room to using abusive languages while campaigning.
Nigerians are wise now, they are going to vote individually and not by political party. They would vote for, irrespective of Tribe, Ethnic and Region affiliation, a President whom they believe would liberate the country from its current security and socio-economic challenges.
“So, using abusive languages and thugs to campaign in order to intimidate others is now a waste of resources and human energy”, he stressed.
He however, called on political parties and their candidates to engage on issue-based campaign that would sustain the already existing peace, unity and oneness of the country.
Igwe Nwankwo used the New Yam Festival celebrations to pray for a peaceful and successful 2023 election.
