Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Foster Ihejiofor, has urged affluent individuals of Igbo extraction in the diaspora to deploy their investment to the state especially in the agricultural sector for enhanced business transactions.
He also called on Ndi Anambra living in other parts of the country to heed to the philosophy by government to build a virile state.
Dr Ihejiofor who harped on this while receiving a delegation from Akuluo Uno Foundation on a courtesy visit to his office,assured of state government sustained creation of enabling environment for investment to thrive through the initiative.
“You are making alive the message that Ndigbo in diaspora have been often times told to embrace. That they should not sit out there in America, Japan and in Britain and be enjoying the cosy environment of their host and not think home”.
He stated that the state will be a hub of economic activities, industrialization and infrastructural development if Ndi Anambra will embrace the Think Home Philosophy.
The Commissioner told the delegation that the agricultural sector could be explored for bountiful food production even as government intends to adopt dual season farming policy.
“If we give the right attention to dry season farming around the coastal areas,then we will have abundant food for both the dry and rainy season”
Earlier, Spokesman of the Foundation and a Retired Permanent Secretary,Comrade Leo Imoka, said they were committed to the quest for Igbos living outside to bring their wealth and assist in the development of their homeland.
“We are also committed towards involvement in small and large scale agriculture whereby we have assisted our teeming members to come together in form of Cooperative Society and to secure land to that effect”
He, then, urged the Ministry to leverage media platform created by it to educate the populace both at home and in diaspora of enabling environment to invest in agricultural productivity.
