Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Gov. Charles Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Works to ensure the continuation and speedy completion of ongoing construction work at Ezego, Ubahuekwem Osoakwa and Oluoha Okechukwu roads in Ihiala Local Government Area.
The House said this would open up the areas for enhanced business activities and revenue generation for Ndi Anambra.
The House resolution was sequel to a motion moved by Mr. Jude Ngobili, representing Ihiala 1 constituency and seconded by Mr. Golden Ilo representing Ihiala 11 constituency during plenary on August 1.
The Speaker, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided over the plenary had moved for the resolution of the House while the lawmakers adopted it through voice votes.
Speaking on the motion, Mr. Ngobili emphasized on how the government of Anambra state poised to make Anambra state the most habitable state in Nigeria through construction of good road network in the state.
He explained that Ezego, Ubahuekwem Osoakwa road is the only road that has access to Osoakwa seaport and Oluoha Okechukwu road, adding that they are major roads that are of economic importance to the people of Ihiala and the entire Anambra state.
Mr. Ngobili noted that the construction of the road had been awarded by the past administrations from Chinwoke Mbadinuju led administration through Chris Ngige, Peter Obi and Willie Obiano’s administration without completion.
“Whereas the government have done palliative works on the road but because of the non completion, erosion wiped them away which caused more hazard to the people of Ihiala.’’
According to Ngobili, the Osoakwa road is a link to the commercial facial point of Ihiala and Anambra state, if this road is completed it will bring revenue and promote commercial activities as well as facilitate the construction of the Osoakwa seaport.
“It will also support farmers to be more productive because with good roads transportation of farm produce will be easy’’.
In his view, Mr. Nigeria Mbachu representing Awka South 1 constituency, urged government to start work on the road immediately to help quicken the Federal Government to fulfill the desire of Ndi Anambra of having a functional seaport.
Also, Mr. Patrick Udoba representing Anambra West constituency, Mr. Chidebele Ibemeka representing Njikoka 1, Mr. Jude Umehnnajiego representing Onitsha South 11, Mr. Jude Akpua representing Njikoka 11 constituency spoke in favour of the motion.
The lawmakers said it would be a good sign of seriousness if the roads were constructed, adding that it would enable the seaport to be actualized.
They posited that the public is losing hope on the government because of promises not fulfilled; they expressed the need to act fast to gain the trust of the masses.
