Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Gov. Charles Soludo to urgently implement the already existing laws of the State as it relates to the Autonomy, Financial and Fund Management bills of the Legislative and the Judiciary Arms of Government respectively.
Equally, the House urged the governor to within the next two weeks set up the State Accounts Allocation Committee in line with the prosecuting law.
This followed a motion moved Under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by the Minority leader of the House, Mr. Onyebuchi Offor representing Ekwusigo State Constituency and seconded by Mr. Charles Obimma representing Oyi Constituency during plenary on October 20.
The Speaker, Mr. Uche Okafor who presided over the plenary had put the motion to voice vote while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice votes.
Onyebuchi Offor said, Mr. Speaker, aware that on the 18th of August 2021, a Law for the management of funds accruing to Anambra State Judiciary for the consolidated revenue of the state was signed into Law.
Also aware that on the 4th of September 2021, a Law to provide for the establishment of the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission was also signed into Law.
Further, aware that on the 3rd of March 2022, a Law to provide for the management of funds accruing to Anambra State House of Assembly from consolidated revenue funds of the state was also signed into Law.
Disturbed that up till now, the governor has not sent accounts allocation for the full implementation of these Laws.
Mr. Speaker, my colleagues, be it therefore resolved that this Honourable House led by the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okafor looked into subsection 6 of the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission, to constitute and forward immediately the names of not more than seven would be members of the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission, to the Executive Governor of Anambra State.
Also, the Honourable Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly to constitute and draw up the members of the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission to the governor for immediate setting up of the Commission”, he stressed.
Throwing more light on the motion, Mr. Onyebuchi Offor frowned at the non compliance of the bills which had been signed into law for a long time now.
He stressed that the motion on the laws was to remind the governor, if he has forgotten, to help the House implement those laws already signed by the state government.
Speaking in favour of the motion, Mr. Douglas Egbuna representing Onitsha North 1 constituency said that what was Paramount was that these existing laws were begging for implementation.
Egbuna, therefore, described the motion as a wake up call, both on the part of the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly to do the needful and pass on to the Executive, to implement them.
Others that spoke on the motion are, Mr. Charles Obimma representing Oyi constituency, Mr. Noble Igwe representing Ogbaru 1, Mr. Ebele Ejiofor representing Anaocha 1, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu representing Anaocha 11 and Mr. Patrick Udoba representing Anambra West constituency. (Ministry of Information)
