The Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Mr. Tony Muobike representing Aguata II constituency has led members of the committee to Anambra State College of Nursing and Sciences, Nkpor on familiarization visit.
Mr. muobike said that they were there because of the report presented in the House of Assembly chamber to familiarize with them and for the college to know the committee members too.
He promised the Provost and the Staff of the College that Anambra State House of Assembly would do their best to make sure that Gov. Charles Soludo and the Commissioner for Health will come to their rescue and grant them all their needs because Soludo is always a ‘Working Governor’.
Muobike asked the Provost of the College their challenges and how they need the House of Assembly to assist them.
Earlier, the Provost, Dr. Juliana Uwaezuruoke Chiegbuonu had welcomed members of the House Committee on Health for their wonderful visit.
According to her, this is the first time lawmakers are paying the college a visit and I commend the Chairman and his committee for their great concern.
She said that they have been facing some challenges which includes; lack of teachers, stressing that their teachers are leaving for greener pastures because they do not receive subvention from the government to pay the teachers and staff of the college.
She further explained that they hired ad-hoc teachers and they pay the teachers as well as run the school through the students school fees and stipends they received from them.
The Provost said that erosion has pulled down the fence of the College which has also affected the school so much, saying that safety is not assured to the students.
She said that the college needed to be accredited so that they could continue to function.
“Starting from next year, we have to run OND and HND programmes if accredited.”
Chiegbuonu, however, appealed to the State Assembly and the Commissioner for Health to help the school to be accredited so that the College could still be functional in the state.
On if the Ministry of Health is aware of their present challenges, she told the Committee that they were aware of their challenges and were still waiting for their reply.
The lawmakers that went with him are Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor (Orumba South), and Mr. Golden Iloh (Ihiala II), Mr. Anayo Okpalaeke (Aguata 1).
