The Anambra State House of Assembly has condoled with the family of late Chief Amechi Mbazulike from Ukpor in Nnewi South describing him as an elder statesman, a patriot and a true nationalist.
Chief Mbazulike, the last standing member of the Zikist Movement of the pre-independence era died on Tuesday, November 1 at the age of 93.
At plenary on Tuesday, the Speaker of the House, Dr. Uche Okafor, described the late Chief Mbazulike as an articulated, astute, clairvoyant and quintessential elder statesman.
The speaker said that the death of Chief Mbazulike was a great loss to Anambra and the country.
“The Anambra State Assembly condoles with the family, Nnewi South constituents, the people of Anambra and Nigeria over the death of Chief Amechi.
“He was an articulate and outstanding patriot; he had great wisdom politically and he was also a great nationalist who served the nation diligently.
“We pray that the late Chief Amechi’s soul will rest in peace, and we also pray that God would grant the family the strength and fortitude to carry on, ” he said.
Other lawmakers eulogised Chief Amechi Mbazulike’s achievements particularly his passion for equity and good governance for the country.
Mr. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, member representing Nnewi South Constituency ll, said that the late Chief Mbazulike would be remembered for his forthrightness, ingenuity, intuition, moral rectitude and upright leanings.
Contributing, Deputy Speaker of the House, Dr. Pascal Agbodike, described late Chief Mbazulike as a political encyclopedia and a great mentor to politicians in the state and the country at large.
Member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Mr. Nonso Okafor, urged politicians and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the humility, patriotism, selflessness and life of service exhibited by the late Chief Mbazulike.
