Anambra State House of Assembly has ordered for the arrest of the Chairman Ifite Nteje Development Union, Mr. Nnamdi Fabian Obi for failing to appear before the Committee on Public Petitions, to answer all the fraudulent activities against him over land issue.
The House resolution followed the consideration of the report of the House Committee on Public Petitions at the ‘Committee of the Whole’, on the petition entitled,” Notice of illicit practice on land capable of causing communal crisis”, an act which the State Assembly has legislated against.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye who presided over the plenary on Tuesday ruled that the recommendations be adopted as a working document and was unanimously adopted by the House.
The Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Obi Nweke in his submissions listed the petitioners to include Chinedu Stanley Uzo, and Obinna Henry Emenogu while the respondents are the people of Ifite Nteje community (Chairman).
Obi Nweke added the petitioners were against the people of Ifite Nteje community over the land purchased from them.
According to Nweke, the Chairman Ifite Nteje Development Union, Mr. Nnamdi Fabian Obi sold five hundred (500) plots of land to the petitioners and got all the members of his executive to sign, after which the property was registered and part of the payments paid which made them(petitioners) the legitimate owners of the land.
“It was later discovered that the Chairman also sold the same land to another person.
“The Committee had invited all the parties involved but the Chairman failed to honour the invitation. His executive came and affirmed that they signed the document.
“With all these facts, the Committee on Public Petitions through its recommendations ruled that the Petitioners be allowed to take the possession of the 500 plots of land acquired from the respondents with immediate effect.
“That the petitioners are hereby directed to go into possession and start erecting perimeter fencing to demarcate their property from others and the respondent should stay off that property.
“That Government is enjoined to employ all the coercive apparatuses such as Ocha Brigade, State Anti-Tout Squad, Nigeria Police to proceed against any person molesting and preventing the Petitioners from taking possession of the land, especially one tout called Edu Baron.
“It is recommended that the Chairman Ifite Nteje Development Union be arrested and persecuted in line with the amended law of Anambra State prohibiting illegal dealings on land as he refused, failed and neglected to appear before the Committee to answer all the fraudulent activities of his towards the land in question”, Hon. Nweke explained.
