A Bill for a Law to amend the Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024 and for other connected purposes has passed into Law on the floor of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
This followed the necessary amendments of clause 2 and various Sections 24(3), 25(1), subsection 27(3), 31 and 56(a,b,c, d) of the Principal Law considered at the “Committee of the Whole” by the lawmakers, after which the bill read for the Third Time before it passed into law during plenary on August 13.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided over the plenary said that the Law shall be cited as ” Anambra State Electoral Law Amendment No.2 Law, 2024 and shall come into force on the 13th day of August, 2024.
The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme had moved a motion for the Bill to be read a third time and passed while the member representing Ogbaru 1 constituency, Hon. Noble Igwe seconded the motion.
Rt. Hon. Udeze had put up the motion to vote for its final passage while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice votes.
However, after the first reading of the Bill, the Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme through order 74 of the House, moved a motion for the second reading and was seconded by Hon. Noble Igwe representing Ogbaru 1 constituency.
Similarly, the State lawmakers have passed into Law a Bill for a Law to amend the Local Government Law, 1999 and for other connected purposes during plenary on August 13.
This was sequel to the necessary amendments of clauses 6 to 80 carried out on the Local Government Amendment No. 9 Bill, 2024, by the State lawmakers at the “Committee of the Whole”, after which the bill read for the Third Time before it passed into law on August 13.
