The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Anambra State Chapter has commended the leadership of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze for organising a two-day capacity training for its members.
PASAN equally, expressed appreciation to Governor Charles Soludo for approving the training exercise.
The Chairman of the Association, Comrade Abraham Okoye who gave the commendation in an Interview shortly after the training exercise organized for staff of the State Assembly in Awka, the Anambra State capital noted that the training was long overdue.
The training was put together by the acting Clerk, Mr Okechukwu Nwobi with the approval of the Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze for staff working in the legislative complex.
With the theme: “Empowering the Legislative Staff for Productivity”, the workers both junior and senior were taking through the relevant and prerequisite knowledge of writing Memos, dressing properly, respect, diligence to duty as well as effective service delivery amongst other topics.
The PASAN Chairman, Comrade Okoye described the training as a right step which would no doubt impact positively on the staff of the State Legislature.
According to him, training of staff is one of the things on the PASAN list of agitation, so that the workers will be abreast and at per with their counterparts in other state Assemblies in the federation and also in the South East Zone.
Okoye however, appealed to the governor to also look into others issues that concerns workers’ welfare, especially as it concerns the unpaid peculiar allowances.
” Also to constitute members of the State Assembly Commission Board that will oversee to the effective running of the Assembly having assented to the bill passed by the law makers.
Comrade Okoye explained that when the Commission is constituted, they would then be saddled with the responsibility of training and retraining of staff which will in turn improve the capacity of workers.
The PASAN Chairman said the two-day training has shown that the governor and the speaker have listening ears to the yearnings and agitations of the workers.
” And specially for the ongoing face lifting works that is at various stages within the legislative complex.
Okoye who noted that contrary to speculation that the union (PASAN) , Anambra state Chapter was out to criticize the governor and the Speaker said they were only protesting for a better Welfare, renumeration and working condition for members which will in turn mean effective service delivery as well as increased revenue for the state.
