Motorists in Anambra had been enjoined to as a matter of necessity, avail themselves for driver’s test before obtaining the driver’s license.
This call was made by the Head of Department, Vehicle Inspection Services, Ministry of Transport, Engr. MacDonald Achuam, during a driver’s test exercise at the Awka testing centre.
According to Achuam, this test is conducted on applicant drivers to ascertain the level of their competence before issuing them with the driver’s license.
“This is a global practice, aimed at determining if the person is qualified to move a vehicle,” he said.
He noted that anybody that miraculously gets the driver’s license without being tested, is more or less invalid, because he did not pass through the process of acquiring a license.
“If you have incompetent and unqualified drivers on the road, it would only increase the rate of crashes.”
The VIO boss, then, called on Ndi Anambra to ensure that they always come for driver’s test, as that is the only way to make our roads safer.
Addressing the applicant drivers during the theory session of the exercise, the Co-ordinator of Awka Zone, Engr. Njideka Nkwonta, noted that the driver’s license is not primarily meant to service as a means of identification, rather it is an authorization for one to move a vehicle.
She, therefore, urged participants to take the exercise seriously, noting that the exercise is in two phases; the theory session and practical session.
