Stakeholders from the Nnobi Community in Idemili South Council have called for the investigation of their President General, Dominic Okpala, over the alleged use of illicit drugs.
Okpala recently admitted to using crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as “mkpurummiri,” during his incarceration in a viral video currently circulating on the internet.
In the video, Okpala was seen addressing his supporters upon his return to the community following his early release from the Onitsha Correctional Centre on April 10, 2025, where he had served a sentence for contempt of court.
Speaking in Igbo in the video, Okpala admitted to using methamphetamine and other unnamed drugs during his time in prison. He also issued threats against anyone who stands in his way.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, the Palace Secretary of Nnobi Community, Chief Ezeobianumba Ajaghaku, questioned why the President General would make such a statement, which has gone viral.
He lamented that at a time when the state government is working hard to combat drug abuse, trafficking, and other crimes, a community leader of Okpala’s stature would publicly make such claims, describing the action as a call to anarchy.
Ajaghaku argued that Okpala’s admission to drug use has called his character and suitability for continued leadership of the Nnobi Community into question, adding, “If found culpable, he should be removed from his position, as he has become a bad influence on the youth of the community.”
“By using the strong language he used in the video, he is directly instigating violence in the community,” he said, while calling on the state government and security agencies to investigate the President General and his activities.
