In a recent stakeholders interactive session held on July 12 at the Aguata Local Government Headquarters, the Anambra State Government reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that every household in the state has access to reliable and potable water.
The session focused on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Obizi-Aguata Regional Water Supply Scheme under the theme “Community Partnership for Secure and Sustainable Pipe-Borne Water Supply”.
The event, organized by the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources in collaboration with the Anambra State Urban Water Asset Holdings Corporation (ASUWAHC), witnessed the participation of key stakeholders.
Declaring the session open, Dr. Chibuike Lawrence Oforbuike, Transition Committee Chairman (TCC), Aguata Local Government emphasized the transformative impact of Mr. Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s landmark projects in Aguata Local Government.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner, Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka highlighted the state government’s commitment to water sustainability.
Recognizing that the project cannot be handled by the government alone, he emphasized the importance of community participation through the Private Public Community Partnership (PPCP).
According to him, this collaborative approach aimed to promote the long-term viability of water schemes across small, urban, semi-urban, and regional areas.
Mr. Ikeobi Ejiofor, ASUWAHC Boss, commended Gov. Soludo’s unwavering dedication to fulfilling his campaign promise of providing clean, safe, and potable water to Anambra State residents.
Discussing the theme, Ikeobi stressed the need for community engagement in managing the water supply scheme, urging stakeholders to actively contribute to its security and sustainability.
As part of the initiative, the Anambra State Urban Water Asset Holdings Corporation unveiled a dedicated customer service line (09028421221) to address water-related needs, report vandalism, and handle emergencies.
The traditional rulers from beneficiary communities expressed their appreciation for the visible impact of these laudable projects, noting that the Obizi-Aguata Regional Water Scheme will alleviate the water scarcity challenges faced by the local government.
Mr. Victor Ezekwo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Water Resources, representatives from the 14 communities in Aguata LGA, contractor One Dot Associates, and ministry staff were also present at the event.
