Anambra Indigenes in New York Holds Cultural Festival to Promote Igbo Traditions

Anambra Indigenes living in New York City, United States of America (USA) held a cultural festival to promote and sustain the traditions, norms, and cultural values of Ndi Anambra.

The maiden edition which featured activities like Emume oji, Itu nzu, Iri ji 2022 Ndi Anambra in New York, Ojemba mmanwu cultural group, Umu-oma cultural dance, folks play, Igbu Oja, News broadcasting in the Igbo language by the children raffle tickets draw, among others, was held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church 114-58170th, St. Jamaica, NY11434.

Speaking at the event, the president of the Anambra Indigenes New York, Onowu Anthony Ume-Ezeoke noted that the festival was organized to promote and sustain the rich and unique culture and traditions of Ndi Anambra in the diaspora.

“This festival is about Anambra culture and it’s important to us and our coming generations. It is to create awareness or the consciousness of being an Igbo person in our children.

” The communication between the parents and their children helps the children to form ideas and beliefs about themselves and with this kind of festival, they will understand how things are done in Igbo land,” he said.

Onowu Ume-Ezeoke then called on Ndi Anambra in other parts of the world to be united, come together, and celebrate the rich and beautiful culture of Ndi Anambra in diaspora courageously.

He also advised them to teach their children the Igbo language.

Present at the event was; Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former governor of Anambra State, Major General Jack Ogunewe Rtd, Sir Ikechi Okolie, Chief Paul Olisah, Chief Sir Onuora Onyemekwu, Chief Sir Godfrey Rex Ajoku, Chief Sir Godfrey Orakwue, Chief Okechukwu Udeogu, and Chief Iyke Ohriala.

Others are; Prince Sir Patrick Ogoke, Chief Sir Martins Ukeje, Chief Osita Eziuzo, Chief James Nwankwo, Chief Valentine Duruoha, Chief Chijoke Okeke, and Chief Kingsley Umeje.
