Anambra State Government Suspends Casinos, Gaming at Hotels, Relaxation Centres

Anambra State Ministry of Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Homeland Affairs and the Anambra Board of Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has directed every hotel, restaurant and bar in the state to suspend every gaming and casino activity in their outlets with immediate effect.

In a release made available to the public on October 19 by the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji the directive was to curb large scale of fraudulent and criminal activities going on in these places through these gaming and casino activities as reported by some members of the public.

“The Ministry has received several petitions for the manipulation of these casino game machines and their non-transparency for game-winnings which are serious abuse of the global practices.

“This fraudulent practices will not be allowed to thrive under the watch of Governor Soludo’s administration, therefore should be dealt with immediately.”

The commissioner, then, invited all the hotel owners/managers in the state to an emergency meeting on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre for enumeration, validation of their hotel licenses and for security tips on the activities in these places of entertainment and relaxation.

He however warned that any hotel that is not profiled at the meeting and without a license would be dealt with according to the Anambra State Tourism and Hospitality laws.
