Anambra State Sports Development Commission has restated its resolve to sustain programmes targeted at getting young people on board to do more for the state in the sports sector
Speaking at a pre event news conference for Year 2025 Anambra Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI), Chairman of the Commission, Patrick Onyedum, said it is resolute in bringing out the best in children.
“ANSSI is a sports competition involving Primary and Post Primary Schools including public, federal, private and mission schools at various age categories ( under-12, Under-14 and Under- 18).
“The third edition kicks-off on March 19th, 2025 and will end June 27, 2025 and wiil feature eleven sporting events including Athletics, Ncho, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Scrabble, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwando and Volleyball.
“It is being organised in collaboration with the State Ministry of Education and 21 LGAs Chairmen with about 15,000 children, including males and females expected to participate in the three month sporting events.

“For this third edition, we are giving out cash prizes worth more 15 million naira to various winners in all categories”
He,then, described ANSSI as the vehicle with which Governor Chukwuma Soludo is revolutionising sports in the state, adding that the glory of the state in sports is returning at an encouraging speed.
Contributing, the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh described school sports as the vital aspect of child development, saying the most balanced people are the sports people who are trained in cognitive, affective and psychomoto domains of education.
While describing sporting events as integral part of school curriculum, she affirmed that the competition is in line with Governor Soludo’s agenda in education.
“If the children are not properly trained, they are not balanced in the three domains of education and the society will find it difficult to move up progressively.”
Other Stakeholders who spoke during the event including Local Government Area Chairman of Anaocha and a representative of ASATU Youths pledged to
mobilise material and human resources towards ensuring that the programme was successful.
