The Transition Committee chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Mr. Felix Ikechi on Thursday donated textbooks to Anglican Grammar School Odekpe.
Ikechi made the donation as part of his administration’s commitment towards ensuring that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda on affordable and qualitative education was felt across communities in Anambra West under “Anambra West Integrated Development Strategy.”
Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Ikechi reiterated the government’s inclusion and total commitment to qualitative and affordable education in the state
. He noted that what he did was to complement the efforts of the Anambra State Government in education development.
Ikechi who described education as one of the greatest investments for the future also noted that the first phase of textbooks’ distribution covers the core subjects of English and Mathematics.
These, he believed would greatly enhance the learning experience of the students and their academic pursuits as well as improve the overall educational environment of the school.
The Anambra West Mayor commended Governor Soludo’s administration for making education top priority and transforming the sector, through the recent announcement of free basic education.
Ikechi who described the gesture as unprecedented said that the importance of quality education cannot be overemphasized.
He encouraged the students to reciprocate the government’s huge investment in education by studying hard to excel, so as to remain relevant in the emerging world and attract more interventions.
The Anambra West Local Government boss took time to interact with the students, while personally distributing the textbooks to them.
He even inspected some of the dilapidated sections of the school which he promised to look into with the aim of improving them.
In his vote of thanks, the Principal of the school, Reverend Chukwudi Daniel thanked Mr. Ikechi for his kind gesture ,describing it as the first of its kind.
Reverend Daniel further said that the gesture would surely improve the academic potentials of the students.
