Anambra State Government has assured flood displaced persons quartered in various Holding Centers and those outside the camps of its commitment towards ameliorating their sufferings.

The Transition Committee Chairman (TCC), Anambra West Local Government Area Mr. Felix Ikechi gave the assurance when he led some Liaison Officers to Ezichi Bridge in Anambra West LGA where some displaced persons mostly from Iyiora and Umuoba Abegbu communities are camped.

Mayor Ikechi who was surprised to see the large number of the flood displaced persons explained that the State Government was working and making sure that displaced persons at various camps in the State receive the necessary assistance.

“Before coming here, I was told by my liaison officer representing Iyiora and Abegbu Wards that his people were camped at this bridge and I said ok, let us go find out and when we got here I was surprised to see this huge number of people,” he said.

The Anambra West Mayor said that he was aware that most of the persons at the location refused to join in the camp because of the security of their properties, he nevertheless promised that any relief material from the government would surely get them.

“I was equally told that you some of you refused to join others at various IDP camps because of the security of properties but that wouldn’t stop us from doing our best as a government towards rendering assistance.’’

After touring the Camp he donated some bags of rice and a few gallons of cooking oil to them and promised to be visiting from time to time to know how they are faring.

Some of the displaced persons who spoke to this Information Officer expressed gladness at the Mayor’s visit, saying that he has shown that government remembers them even those of them that couldn’t join in the camps.

They appealed for more of government’s assistance in the area of the provision of relief materials.
