Former Senate President of Nigeria, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, has urged the Southeast to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. He said the region must reciprocate the president’s ongoing infrastructure support.
Anyim made the call at the flag-off of Section 1 of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja Super Highway in Amuro, Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
He said President Tinubu remains the only political leader capable of integrating the Southeast into the federal structure. He asked Igbo leaders to continue thanking the president for several ongoing federal road projects in the region.
“We are not just gathered here today for this flag-off. The Afikpo-Okigwe road is ongoing. The Onitsha-Enugu road is progressing. The Port Harcourt-Enugu road is nearing completion,” Anyim stated.
He also announced that a link road between the beach and Asaba will soon be completed, making the second Niger Bridge fully motorable. According to him, these developments are enough reasons for the region to express gratitude.
Anyim praised the appointment of David Umahi, an Ebonyi indigene, as Minister of Works. He said it was another example of Tinubu’s goodwill toward the Southeast.
“We must begin to show appreciation by supporting the president,” he added. “It is time for Southeast political leaders and the entire region to connect to the centre. Standing with the president in 2027 will show we are ready.”
