The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State has announced the indefinite suspension of former Senator Chuka Utazi over alleged anti-party activities.
Utazi, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defected to the APC in 2024. However, according to a letter addressed to the APC State Chairman, Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, the former lawmaker was accused of actions considered detrimental to the party’s interest.
The suspension notice, jointly signed by Chief Chris Ajodo (APC Uzo-Uwani LGA Chairman), Hon. Pius Diara (Secretary), and Hon. Albert Aniebonam (APC Nkpologu Ward Chairman), said the decision followed a petition from Utazi’s ward, Nkpologu, accusing him of participating in PDP activities.
The petition alleged that Utazi attended PDP Enugu North zonal meetings, endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in 2027, and made public statements disparaging the APC.
“He openly aligned with the PDP, participated in their meetings, and even joined in endorsing Governor Peter Mbah for a second term,” the letter stated.
“He also granted interviews that openly blackmailed and de-marketed the APC in Enugu State. Some of these actions were captured in online videos.”
The letter, which was also copied to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji (Nwakaibie), further explained that a three-man disciplinary committee was constituted by the local government chapter on April 8, 2025, to probe the allegations.
“Senator Utazi was notified and invited to appear before the disciplinary panel but failed to honour the invitation.
Despite his absence, the committee conducted a thorough investigation and returned a verdict of guilt,” the letter said.
According to the party, the committee described the senator’s conduct as “highly disappointing, repugnant, and unbecoming of a bona fide member of APC.”
Following the submission of the committee’s report on April 12, 2025, which included video evidence, the APC Uzo-Uwani LGA Executive Committee said it carefully reviewed and unanimously adopted the recommendation to suspend Utazi indefinitely.
“This decision was taken in accordance with the provisions of the APC constitution,” the letter concluded.
As of the time of this report, Senator Utazi has not publicly responded to the suspension.
