Anambra State House of Assembly on Tuesday resumed plenary session after a two- month long recess.
Welcoming members of the 7th Assembly during plenary on the floor of the State legislature, the Speaker of the House, Mr. Uche Okafor who presided over the session announced the unfortunate death of the Majority leader, Mr. Nnamdi Godwin Okafor.
Late Nnamdi Okafor, until his death on August 23, 2022 in South Africa, was representing Awka South 1 Constituency in the State Legislature.
The Speaker who presented the burial letter sent to the House by the immediate family of the late Majority Leader, Mr. Nnamdi Okafor said his burial has been scheduled to hold on December 9 and December 10, 2022.
However, a Minute Silence was observed by the lawmakers for their departed Majority Leaders, as a mark of honour.
According to the Speaker, The immediate family of late Honourable Nnamdi Okafor has sent the burial programme to the House.
“According to the letter, his remains have been repatriated to Nigeria, and his burial scheduled for the 9th and 10th of December, 2022 in his hometown, Awka, Anambra State.
” The family thanked the House for the assistance given to them to ensure the successful repatriation of their brother, Nnamdi Okafor.
“The letter was signed on behalf of the deceased family by Engineer Emeka Okafor and they solicited for fund from the State legislature and the State government in order to give the late Majority leader, a befitting burial”, Speaker stated.
He therefore urged his colleague lawmakers to remember the immediate family in prayers during this trying time.
Meanwhile, after a short period of plenary, Condolence register was opened and first signed by the Speaker, Mr Uche Okafor, followed by the deputy Speaker, Mr. Pascal Agbodike, Deputy Majority leader, Mr. Emeka Aforka, Mr. Onyebuchi Offor representing Ekwusigo constituency, Mr. Chidi Udemadu, amongst others
Late Nnamdi Godwin Okafor, was a Pharmacist and had acquired Doctorate Degree.
