The newly appointed Transition Committee Chairman of Ayamelum Local Government Area (LGA), Mr. Livinus Onyenwe has expressed his intentions to make the area one of the most comfortable communities in the state.
He made this known in a meeting with the Local Government Workers held at the Local Government Secretariat.
The Chairman said that he has been briefed by the Head, Local Government Administration and other Heads of Departments on some of the challenges being faced by workers especially, in the area of transportation.
According to him, the need for this meeting arose because many responsibilities have been shifted to the Chairman/Counselors and we cannot carry out these responsibilities effectively without the help of the workers.
“I am willing to make things work for all the workers who are ready to work; however, there is a need for Local Government workers to have a change of attitude towards work.
“A change in your attitude to work is what will bring the healthy working environment you have been clamouring for”.
The TC said he has come to make a change and that it would no longer be business as usual.
“There must be a difference before I leave, compared to what I met on ground. I want to make Ayamelum prosperous and with time, one of the most comfortable Local Government within the state.
“I will do whatever it will take to satisfy the people that are working with me.’’
The Chairman assured that he would use his office and position to attract benefits to the workers who are punctual and are ready to do their jobs adding that his office would change the relationship between the workers and political office holders in the LGA.
In his response, the Head, Local Government Administration (HLGA) Ayamelum LGA, Mr. Valentine Onuora assured the Chairman of the workers support saying that he has observed that the new chairman has come to make changes and if given the right support that he would attract numerous developments to the area.
While pleading with the workers to have a changed attitude towards work, he promised that the workers would in return not be denied their benefits under his watch.
He advised the new committee members to focus more on creating a healthy working environment rather than hijacking the point revenue generations in the area.
An Executive member of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ayamelum Chapter, Mr. Joseph Offorka, pleaded with the chairman to help provide a functional toilet in the area among other basic amenities.
In his vote of thanks a senior officer in the Works Department, Mr Oliver Nweke commended the new administration explaining that Ayamelum would be blessed with his leadership style.
Mr Nweke assured the chairman that the entire work force will thrive in the kind of working environment he intends to create for them.
Others who were in the meeting include: the Deputy TC, Mr. Joseph Okonkwo and the Head, Personnel Management, Mrs Dorathy Ofili.
Others are, NULGE Secretary (Ayamelum Chapter), Mr. Johnson Nwachukwu and Mr Ekwenze Charles.
