CLO Condemns Attack on Sen. Ifeanyi Uba, Calls for Immediate End to Senseless Killings

By Juliana Nwachukwu :

Civil Liberties Organisation Anambra state Chapter has strongly condemned the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Uba, representing Anambra South in the Senate and his convoy at Enugu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The group described the attack which led to the untimely death of six persons in including security personnel as despicable and horrendous.

The condemnation was conveyed in a press statement issued to newsmen and endorsed by Mr. Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mba Chairman and Secretary of the State chapter of the organization respectfully with the theme ‘whatever that affects one directly affect all indirectly’.

“The attack is insane, barbaric, inhumane, condemnable, detestable and apogee of man’s inhumanity against man.

It is very unfortunate and worrisome that at every election period in the state there is always escalated arson, tensions, bloodlettings, killings and destruction of private and public properties.

“We wish to remind the perpetrators and the citizenry that the commandment of God, ‘thou shall not kill’ is sacrosanct and must be respected by all mortals.

“Only God gives and takes life; we must all thereby observe, protect, safeguard and respect the sanctity and sacredness of human persons, life and dignity.

“We pray, identify and sympathize with Senator Uba at this painful and trying period. May our good Lord forgive the shortcomings of the security personnel and civilians who lost their lives during the dastardly and senseless killing.

“We also pray to God to give grace and fortitude to the bereaved to bear and endure the irreparable and irreplaceable loss.

“The governor and Commissioner of Police should order for in-depth and discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the dastardly act, those involved and to prevent future occurrences.

“We appeal to CP Echeng Echeng to kindly beef up security around the candidates and political gladiators in the state and for the stakeholders to play the game according to the rules in order to douse political tensions and restore normalcy.

“It is of prime importance to note that uncommon problem calls for uncommon solution hence the inevitable need to seek God’s interventions for various problems and challenges bedeviling the state.’’
