Court Orders ASUU to Resume Work

By Anastasia Agunwa :

The National Industrial Court, Abuja Judicial Division has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resume work.

Delivering a ruling on the interlocutory injunction filed by the Federal Government, Justice Polycarp Hamman restrained ASUU from continuing with the Industrial action pending the determination of the suit.

Furthermore, Justice Hamman who is a vacation Judge has ordered that the case filed be returned to the President of the Industrial Court for reassignment to another Judge.

Recall that the Minister of Labour and Employment on behalf of the Federal Government had filed the suit before the court by way of referral to resolve the issue of the 7 months strike by ASUU.

The ruling is coming up shortly after Mr. Ojo Olumide the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) National Task force disclosed at a press conference on Wednesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State that NANS will prevent political campaigns to hold till students of public universities return to classrooms.

The threat is taking place some days to September 28th, the official date for candidates to commence campaign as declared by the Independence National Electoral Commission.
