Culture Perm Sec, 6 Others Receive Chieftaincy Titles, as Eziowelle Celebrates New Yam Festival

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Dr. Laz Okafor, and six other persons have been confirmed with Chieftaincy titles by the traditional ruler of Eziowelle in Idemili North Local Government Area, Igwe Michael Ugobelunorji Okonkwo Etusi.

The conferments were performed at the occasion of Eziowelle’s new yam festival which was held at the palace of the Igwe at the weekend.

3 persons among the awardees were given the Ichie titles while the Permanent Secretary and 3 other persons were given the titles of High Chiefs.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji thanked the Igwe for finding the recipients worthy to receive the titles and for inducting them into his cabinet.

Mr. Onyenji who was represented by the Director of Tourism, Mr. Emma Umeokana, noted that it was the good works and services of the permanent secretary towards the growth of the community that spotted him out for the title.

He, then, wished the Igwe and the entire people a fruitful celebration and God’s abundant blessing and favour upon every celebrant.

The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Laz Okafor, who was been conferred with the title of “Dike Ejiamatu”, expressed joy and gratitude to the Igwe and the entire Eziowelle sons and daughters for finding him worthy of taking the title and to serve as one of the Igwe’s cabinet in the position of a High Chief.

“We were recognized today because of our contribution towards the growth of our community and it shows that they have been seeing what we were doing especially my contribution as a Civil Servant.

“We, civil servants do not make noise when contributing our services to the growth of our communities, and a good number of us have facilitated the infrastructural development of our community.

“I thank God Almighty for everything and everyone who grace this occasion and I promised to continue to do my best for the development of our community,’’ he said.

He enjoined every community that intended to organize any cultural activity to notify the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism which is in charge of cultural activities to attract government presence and approval.

“It is coincidental that what we are doing today is in line with the Ministry’s mandates where I work.

“We also have the Anambra State Cultural Troupe available for any kinds of event to showcase the uniqueness of our culture.’’

Earlier, the Monarch, Igwe Michael Ugobelunorji Okonkwo Etusi thanked God for the gift of life to celebrate another new yam festival.

He prayed for the growth of the community, state and everyone present at the event, noting that they would be fruitful in all their endeavours.

He enjoined everyone to show love to one another, respect the elders among them and respect and keep the laws of the state and communities where they reside.

“Teach your children good morals for they will be our future leaders.’’

Present at the occasion was the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba; Igwe of Abacha, Igwe Godwin Odiegwu; Members of staff of the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, and other dignitaries.
