Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has launched the construction of an industrial city in Izhiamgbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, as part of efforts to mark his second year in office.
The project targets economic revitalization and aims to reduce the increasing rate of youth hawking in major cities like Abuja, Lagos, and Onitsha. It will provide employment and economic opportunities for young people across the state.
Nwifuru described the project as a strategic move to position Ebonyi as a top destination for industrial growth and investment. He said the initiative goes beyond infrastructure and reflects a broader vision for economic development, inclusive growth, and industrial diversification.
“This is a deliberate strategy to attract local and international investors by offering a business-friendly environment supported by modern infrastructure,” Nwifuru stated. “We will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs while empowering our youth and women.”
The industrial city will host various sectors including manufacturing, technology, logistics, and export services. It will be powered by independent energy sources and supported with clean water systems, broadband internet, and advanced environmental protection features.
Located near the state’s pipe production company, the city is strategically sited for access to raw materials, skilled labor, and major transportation routes. It will also feature enhanced security to ensure investor and resident safety.
The Governor said the project would strengthen the state’s internally generated revenue, reduce rural-urban migration, and stimulate the growth of small and medium-sized businesses.
“Our government is fully committed to delivering this transformative project. It will improve living standards, attract innovation, and trigger sustainable economic expansion across Ebonyi,” he added.
Construction is already underway, with strategic partners involved in ensuring timely delivery.
