Anambra State Government through the State Ministry of Health has activated the State’s Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System 112 that helped rescued accident victims at Eke-Awgbu.
The injured victims were rushed to Regina Caeli, Amaku and Eldorado hospitals and Referral Medical Centre, Awgbu.
While the dead victims are deposited at St. Joseph’s Mortuary Adazi-Nnukwu.
Already 5 persons have been confirmed dead and six injured as BUA Trailer crashed in Eke Awgbu market in Orumba North local government area of the state .
The accident happened on Tuesday July 9, 2024 around 9.40am.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike said when he received the sad news he immediately activated the State’s Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System that responded swiftly to the scene of the incident.
Also confirming the accident, the Spokesperson of Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Margret B Onagbe said it was caused by break failure of the trailer which unfortunately crashed into the bush killing five persons and injuring six persons.
She dismissed claims from some quarters that the cause of the accident was due to the activities of Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency ARTMA.
” A Commercial Howo truck belonging to BUA with no registration number,
a commercial TVS/Tricycle with registration number: NZH84LG”
and a commercial Q/Motor cycle
link with registration number: OLU245QV
as well as private Honda/Motorcycle with no registration number were involved” she said.
According to her, the probable cause of the fatal road traffic crash was excessive speed/brake failure.”
An eyewitness at the scene confirmed that the driver of the truck was on speed and had a brake failure, lost control of the vehicle, and collided with the other vehicles at a check point and crashed.
“Eleven persons were involved in the crash comprising (9male adults, and 2 female adults) 5 male adults and 1 female adult sustained varying degrees of injury and 4 male adults and 1 female adult were killed.
