Ekiti State Government Reveals Cause of Speaker Afuye’s Death

The Ekiti State government has officially revealed the cause of the death of the late speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, late Mr. Funminiyi Afuye.

The speaker, 66, was reported to have died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti, where he went for treatment.

This was made available to the public in a statement by Mr. Yinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Mrs. Yemisi Ayokunle, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, in a statement for the State House of Assembly, revealed that the speaker died from a brief illness.

“Late Afuye is an embodiment of courage, excellence, and a highly committed man to the service of humanity and we will greatly miss him.

” The Assembly has declared a seven-day mourning period in his honor and every flag in the Assembly Complex will fly at half mast,” she said.

The late speaker was a former commissioner of the Ekiti State Ministry of information and a two-time member of the State Assembly.

He was inaugurated into office as speaker of the sixth assembly on June 6, 2019.
