Ekwusigo Health Workers Sensitize Residents on Safety of COVID-19 Vaccine

By Uchechukwu Molokwu/Ngozi Iwunze :

Health workers in Ekwusigo Local Government Area (LGA) have gone on a roadshow/rally to sensitize the public on the safety of COVID-19 vaccination.

The rally which took off from the Local Government Secretariat to the popular Ugwuorie market in Ozubulu saw the workers encouraging the people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The roadshow was staged on account of low turnout of the people at various Healthcare Centres in the area for the vaccine.

The Local Government Coordinator, Koninklijke Nederlandse Centrale Vereniging (KNCV) Foundation Nigeria, Mrs. Uchechukwu Udeze while speaking with Information Officers said that people are still afraid of COVID-19 vaccine and are still falling victim of the scourge.

“Due to ignorance about the vaccination and the rumours spread on social media that people vaccinated may run mad or have some medical issues and that the body would attract other illnesses. All these are false information.

“COVID-19 vaccine is safe and free. When a person is vaccinated, the person may notice a mild fever; any person that is vaccinated will not die.’’

She said KNCV is collaborating with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Anambra State to also fight the scourge.

The Social Mobilization Officer for the rally, Mrs. Sabina Machebe said that the number of respondents for the vaccination in Ekwusigo LGA was poor.

“The people are afraid of the vaccine, they need to be enlightened on the safety of the vaccine and that is what we are doing in this roadshow; it is yielding the required response because people are coming out to be vaccinated.’’

A market leader, Mr. Augustine Obi said that after hearing all that have been said in the rally that he would take the jab and would help in sensitizing the market people on the safety of the vaccine.
