Human rights lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor has charged Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to safeguard the integrity of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
Ejiofor enjoined the governor to ensure that the newly established ‘Agunechemba’ Security Outfit isn’t used for political gain ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
In a statement issued to journalists in Awka, yesterday, Ejiofor emphasised the need for a solid foundation to ensure the effectiveness of the new security initiative.
He warned that the security outfit must not be exploited by political actors or used to oppress, intimidate, or harass political opponents.
Ejiofor stressed that the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025 aims to protect lives, properties, and maintain internal security within the state, and hence the ‘Agunechemba’ Security Outfit is designed to complement this effort.
Ejiofor’s statement titled ‘Safeguarding the Integrity of the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025’ highlighted the importance of keeping the security outfit independent and impartial, especially during the election period.
The statement read in part,
” My careful review of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, which establishes the ‘Agunechemba’ security outfit, brings to mind a popular Igbo adage: ‘Osita di mma odibara gboo,’ meaning ‘it’s still early in the day to make things right and achieve better results’. This emphasises our opportunity to lay a robust foundation for the success of this initiative.
“As we approach the November 2025 gubernatorial election, I implore the Governor and his administration to ensure that the Agunechemba security outfit operates free of political interference. It should not fall into the hands of political predators or be misused for oppression or intimidation. Above all, its core mission, ensuring the security and welfare of the people, must remain intact.
“Let us remember that security is a shared responsibility. Every citizen plays a pivotal role in restoring Anambra State’s former glory. Through collective action, we can create a safer, more prosperous homeland for all”.
