The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for emergency runway repairs.
In a statement released early Saturday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, said the closure became necessary due to a sudden and significant rupture in a critical section of the runway.
She said the repair work would take place from April 22 to May 6, 2025, during which time all flights will be redirected to nearby airports.
“In compliance with Nigerian civil aviation regulations, FAAN has closed the runway to ensure passenger safety. There will be no landings or takeoffs throughout the rehabilitation period,” Orah stated.
FAAN appealed for understanding and cooperation from airport users and stakeholders, apologising for the short notice and inconvenience caused by the emergency measure.
