The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eric Odo, has signed the 2025 budget of ₦5.4 billion into law. The budget, tagged “Budget of Aggressive Economic Recovery and Good Governance,” was signed on Monday in Ogbede.
In his remarks, Mr. Odo emphasized that the budget would be implemented judiciously and disclosed that his administration had established a mechanism to ensure a smooth and seamless implementation. He reiterated that the primary goal of the budget was to ensure that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy, focusing on infrastructural development and improving the welfare of the citizens.
The breakdown of the budget reveals that ₦2.71 billion would be allocated for recurrent expenditures, while the remaining ₦2.76 billion would go towards capital expenditures. Mr. Odo outlined strategies for the successful implementation of the budget, including ensuring adequate resource allocation for ongoing projects. He also stressed the importance of prudency, transparency, accountability, and traceability in all local government operations, with a firm commitment to zero tolerance for corruption.
Mr. Odo pledged to utilize the available resources effectively and build upon the progress his administration had made in the past two months. He also commended the Igbo-Etiti Legislative Council for their prompt and thorough work in passing the budget.
In his own remarks, the Leader of the Igbo-Etiti Legislative Council, Stephen Okwu, applauded the councillors for giving the budget speedy attention. Mr. Okwu also urged the council chairman to continue his diligent work and assured him of the full support of the councillors.
