The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Mamman Giwa, has issued a stern warning to officers and men of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against engaging in illegal arrests, extortion, and prolonged detention of suspects.
Giwa gave the warning on Wednesday during a parade drill he conducted for CID personnel as part of his efforts to reinforce discipline and professionalism within the Command.
He maintained that the era of approving frivolous, fictitious, or trumped-up petitions for investigation is over, stressing that only credible and verifiable complaints will be entertained.
“I have zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, extortion, and any form of corruption. Any officer found wanting will be severely sanctioned,” the Police Commissioner declared.
The CP urged the personnel to carry out their duties with diligence, fairness, and respect for human rights, adding that the integrity of the Police Force must be upheld at all times.
The drill, held at the Command headquarters in GRA, Enugu, is part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the State CID for effective and people-centered policing.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the Command remains committed to ridding the force of bad eggs and restoring public confidence in the Police.
