The Enugu State government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, has initiated the verification of property owners in the Aguowa community as part of its plan to clear slums in Enugu city by 2026. The process, announced during a meeting at the Government House, requires property owners to submit title documents by April 28 and undergo physical verification at their properties. Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, Commissioner for Housing, emphasized that the verification process includes assessing property size and documentation to determine habitability. Governor Mbah assured residents that relocation would be free and assistance would be provided for those with incomplete title documents. Community leaders, including Dr. Ikechukwu Nebo, expressed gratitude for the transparent approach, while residents like Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ozoaka urged the government to handle the relocation process with compassion. The Commissioner for Lands, Chimaobi Okorie, highlighted the importance of transparency and inventory in the verification process. Juliet Okonkwo, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, clarified that Aguowa is one of 25 slum areas targeted for redevelopment, reflecting the administration’s commitment to improving both rural and urban areas in Enugu State.
