Poultry Management professionals have called on stakeholders to rekindle effort of providing viable and sustainable practices through effective farming to boost the sector.
They made this disclosure during an Annual Farmers Forum organised by Jofez Agro in partnership with New Hope Tech Nig Ltd, Agrited Nig Ltd and Admire Nig Ltd held at Emmaus House, Awka.
The event with the theme”Surviving A Challenging Poultry Era” drew participants from the state and beyond.
Participants were tutored on different areas of poultry business such as brood of chicks, and management techniques, processing, value addition as well as principles for successful production.
Convener of the event and Chief Executive Officer,Jofez Agro Allied Ltd, Joshua Ifezue, explained that the contents of the seminar would broaden the horizon of participants in contemporary poultry business.
“We are passionate about poultry farmers progress.We don’t just sell poultry inputs,we help farmers to be successful and we want to achieve a successful poultry community.
“I am advising the poultry farmers to take every advice given here very serious because part of the reason for organising this is that a lot of them are doing the wrong thing.
” A lot of them don’t have the technical know how,a lot of them are losing their money, so that is why we brought these experts to teach them on best practices” Ifezue said
Oginga Emagboron, Poultry Technical Support Services, Chi Farms,who spoke on “Running Successful Broiler Operations in Difficult Times”described broiler as a fast growing bird which needed operational efficiency to maximize its growth.
According to him, the gathering allowed for close interaction among stakeholders with a view to achieving optimal result in terms of deep understanding on the part of the farmers.
Other experts including Aviv Hanien, General Manager,Agrited Nig Ltd and Dr James Wageti of Adamore Ltd,underscored the importance of raising healthy chicks through recommended quality feeds to guarantee increased egg production.
While encouraging youths to venture into poultry farming,Mr Hanien urged farmers to improve their knowledge in the business so as to enable them to succeed.
Mr Peace Moses, National Sales Manager,Karma Agric Feeds Ltd, charged the participants to put to proper use the knowledge acquired during the forum, stating that it will no doubt have positive impact in their businesses.
Some of the poultry farmers including, Chidozie Ezedinma and Uche Egwu, hailed the organisers for staging the event and called for it to be a regular exercise.
