The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of a 74-year-old woman in a wheelchair, who was burned to death in Abagana, Dunukofia Local Government Area. The suspects, including a 21-year-old woman, Chinenye Ekwenugo, reportedly acted on the instructions of Ifeanyi Igwe, the main suspect who remains at large.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, involved the suspects burning the victim and procuring a coffin to bury her before security operatives intervened. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that three of the arrested individuals were directly linked to the coffin and burial arrangements.
Efforts are underway to apprehend Igwe, while the body of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy. The arrested suspects include Uzochukwu Okeke (47), Fidel Anayo (60), and Ikenna Anene (54), all from Abagana.
Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for a detailed investigation. He called for calm and reassured the public of the police’s commitment to justice.
