Fraud: EFCC Arrests Kogi Assembly Candidate, Ismaila Atume, Others With N326m, $610, 500 Cash

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a Kogi State House of Assembly Candidates Ismaila Atume and some members of an alleged cyber fraud syndicate with the sum of 326 million naira and 610, 500 dollars in cash.

According to the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, Mr. Atume, a candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who seeks to represent the Ankpa II Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, was arrested with a suspected serial fraudster, Joshua Dominic.

They were arrested in an operation in Macedonia street, Queens Estate, Karsana, Gwarinpa, Abuja on October 30 with the naira component of the funds and the cash sum of $140, 500 dollars.

Mr. Uwujaren noted that one Abdumalik Salau Femi, a former bank employee was also arrested on Tuesday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos, in connection with the syndicates, and the sum of 470, 000 dollars was recovered from him.

He stated that Mr. Femi is the person who provides inside information to others which they use to facilitate cyber attacks on a bank and Fav Oil and Gas limited accounts, from where huge funds were stolen and disbursed to various Bureau de Charge operators and some car dealers to exchange them into US dollars and buy high-end cars.

“They will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”
