By Ebele Egoh :

Anambra State Hospital Administrator, Dr. Okechukwu Achugbu has commended the State Government for prompt and adequate healthcare interventions at various holding centers for flood victims in the state.

Dr. Achugbu made this commendation at Awba Ofemili and Umueri during his weekly visits to communities ravaged by flood and holding centres sheltering the flood victims.

He sympathized with the victims for their losses of farm lands, crops, buildings, homes and other household valuables.

He also commended Health Workers deployed to the holding centres located in some communities in the state for their dedication and efforts in attending to the health needs of the flood victims.

“Health challenges such as malaria, hypertension, diabetes, diarrhea, cough among others are been taken care of by the state government health workers.

“Free ultrasound services are available and deliveries have been recorded in various centers”, the Hospital Administrator revealed.

He reassured the people that government would do everything possible to mitigate the impact of the disaster on their livelihood.

“Some communities are totally submerged in water; there is no land route, massive flood all round. It’s a canoe ride for hours before I and my team could access some of the communities,” he noted.

It is worthy to note that Awba Ofemili is among the communities currently ravaged by this year’s flood disaster in Anambra State. The flood victims are sheltering in various places.

Some of the holding centres where government is providing healthcare services include Bishop Crowder Memorial School, Onitsha, Housing communities from Anambra West; Central School Odekpe, St James Anglican Church, LGA Headquarters, Atani, and St Patrick Osamala.

Flood victims from Anambra East LGA are sheltering and receiving health care intervention from Holding Centres located in Unity Primary School, Umuoba Anam, Fr. Joseph Memorial Secondary School, Aguleri, Community Primary School Umundeze Aguleri and Unity Hall Agulueri.

In Ayemelum, Health Center Ifite Ogwari, Otakwu Primary School Omor, Boniface Emengini camp Umueje and Igbakwu Health Centre are also provided for people from Anambra East.

Some of the displaced people in the holding centres are being treated for Malaria, hypertension, diarrhea, cough, fever among other health challenges.
