Government Constitutes Conflict Resolution Committee for Orient Petroleum, Host Communities

Anambra State Government has emphasized on the need for a standing conflict resolution committee that will serve as a liaison between the Orient petroleum, the host communities of Enugwu-Otu, Aguleri-Otu and Mkpu-Nando in Anambra East Local Government Area and the State Government.

The Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources Barr. Anthony Ifeanya made this statement in his office in Awka during a visit of the communities and Management of Orient Petroleum.

Barr. Ifeanya stressed on the importance of every stakeholder to co-exist in harmony so as to foster peace and understanding in the area and said that no amount of sacrifice would be too much for peace to prevail.

He said that Gov. Chukwuma Soludo is interested in the peace and progress of the communities as well as for the Oil Company.

The communities which were represented by their traditional rulers, serving and past President Generals (PGs) and other notable stake holders called for transparency in the activities of the Oil Company.

They implored the government to encourage the company to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for peaceful coexistence with the communities.

The communities complained of the degradation of their environment and lack of social corporate responsibility to their indigenes from Orient.

After the deliberations, representatives of the Oil Company and stake holders of the host communities agreed to co-operate with the conflict resolution committee towards achieving meaningful progress for all and sundry.
