Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has congratulated Festus Igube for his outstanding performance at the ongoing Invictus Games in Canada. Igube, a native of Ezza North Local Government Area, won a bronze medal, bringing honour to the state and Nigeria.
The governor praised Igube’s determination and resilience despite losing a hand while fighting Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria. “Winning a bronze medal is a testament to his unassailable determination, resilience, and patriotism for our dear nation, Nigeria,” Nwifuru said.
Igube was among the soldiers ambushed by Boko Haram, an attack that claimed over 20 lives. He survived despite severe injuries and was rescued three days later. His journey from a wounded soldier to an international athlete symbolizes courage and perseverance.

“Your selfless service to our nation, despite the ultimate sacrifice of losing your hands, is a shining example of devotion,” Governor Nwifuru stated. “Your achievement inspires us all, proving that we can overcome even the most daunting challenges.”
The Invictus Games celebrate the resilience of wounded soldiers and veterans. Igube’s achievement has placed Nigeria on the global stage, earning admiration from citizens and officials.
Governor Nwifuru expressed deep appreciation for Igube’s dedication. “Please accept my heartfelt appreciation for your service and my congratulations on this outstanding achievement. You have made Nigeria proud, and we celebrate your triumph.”

Igube, lost one of his hands while fighting Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria. He was among the soldiers ambushed by Boko Haram, an attack that claimed the lives of over 20 soldiers. After three days, rescuers found him and another soldier in a nearby gutter, barely alive.
Despite his injuries, Igube defied the odds and competed in the international sporting event for wounded soldiers and veterans. His determination and resilience earned him a place on the podium, bringing pride to Nigeria.
