Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has restated his administration’s commitment to building a productive work environment that empowers public servants and rewards excellence.
He made this known during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki. Addressing workers, the Governor stressed his dedication to improving staff welfare, promoting professional values, and modernizing the civil service.
“As your Governor, I remain resolute in my pledge to prioritize your welfare, uphold the dignity of labour, and ensure an efficient, equitable, and innovative public service,” Nwifuru said. “Through the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda, we are creating a work environment that supports growth and quality service delivery.”
Governor Nwifuru highlighted key actions already taken, including timely salary payments, improved office conditions, and the review of outdated administrative practices. He also announced a system that processes retirees’ gratuities within one hour of their exit from service, aimed at eliminating delays and reducing hardship.
“We do not owe pensions or gratuities. We are building a system that clears your gratuity within an hour of retirement. That eliminates the stress and uncertainty that often follows public service exit,” he stated.
He urged civil servants to reciprocate by being punctual, professional, and effective in their duties.
In a joint address, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), through Professor Ogugua Egwu, commended the Governor’s pro-worker policies.
“We in Ebonyi State must tell a different story. We must express gratitude to the Governor who has magnanimously given our dear state an enviable facelift through his People’s Charter of Needs mantra,” said NLC Chairman.
The message was contained in a statement by Dr. Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
