Health Ministry concludes a 2-day Training Workshop for Health Workers on Disease Prevention

Anambra State Ministry of Health has concluded a two-day training workshop for health workers under the ministry for the prevention, management, and control of non-communicable diseases in the state.

The training workshop was held at the Nigeria Medical Association Hall, Awka.

Director of Nursing Services, State Hospital Management Board, Mrs. Adaobi Ezeani said that the training centered majorly on diabetes and hypertension.

She explained that health workers were trained as well as for them to be well-informed on how best to manage diabetes and hypertension patients at all times.

A Consultant Cardiologist, from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi (NAUTH), Dr. Chukwudi Nwagbara lectured the health workers on the dangers of non-communicable diseases like hypertension, and how best to handle hypertension patients.

Dr. Nwagbara said that hypertension is a silent killer disease, as it doesn’t give any signs or symptoms, and stressing that hypertension can cause heart attacks and blindness which has no cure.

Dr. Ejike Okonkwo, also from NAUTH, centered his lecture on knowing your numbers, advising the health workers to take healthcare services to the grassroots.

“Take this to the grassroots so that people can know their numbers, for effective planning and research.

“It will also help to know how many people that have diabetes and hypertension in the state and for the government to plan for prevention and control. (Ministry Of Information)
