The Vice President, South East, Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Engr David Nwachukwu, has said that they will develop 10,000 housing units in the South East Zone as part of effort to address housing deficit challenge confronting the nation.
He added that 2,000 housing units will be developed in each of the five states in the zone comprising of Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi and Abia.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after its inaugural conference in collaboration with Ministry of Housing held at Western Meloch Hotel, Awka, he assured that they are committed to ensuring that the project will be executed in record time.
“We have a plan, a vision to develop 10,000 housing units in the south east and every state has 2,000 housing units. We are very serious and committed to this vision.
“It is a vision we have undertaken to deliver, so we implore the cooperation of the states and every stakeholder in the building Industry”
Engr Nwachukwu said that the body with over 180 registered organisations in the zone is interested in taking the lead in developing the south east, expressing hope that the project will make people interested in home.
“Looking around our states, you will believe me that there is need to create homes so that we can start shortening the gap in housing industry.
“We don’t talk much,we don’t want to say much,we want people to see it”
He added that the project will serve as a template for government and other investors on what is possible in an investment friendly south East zone.
“So in the South East, we have undertaken this first step and a lot has already started towards that direction and we believe in no distant time this can be achieved. We are going to work together as a team to deliver”
The Vice President, therefore, called on Igbo developers to replicate what are obtainable in developed societies in the zone in line with the vision of addressing prevailing housing deficit.
