The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has come down hard on Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for accusing Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of reneging on a presidential peace accord.
HURIWA claims it’s actually Wike who sabotaged the accord brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling his actions a breach of trust and a slap in the face to good governance.
The group responded to Wike’s recent statements in the media, saying his claims of Fubara’s betrayal are baseless and a deliberate attempt to deceive the public.
HURIWA pointed out that Governor Fubara showed good faith and loyalty to the presidential directive by withdrawing a sensitive court case. This, they say, is clear evidence that Fubara is committed to peace, contrary to Wike’s allegations.
It is hypocritical for Wike to accuse Governor Fubara of disloyalty when the minister himself has actively sabotaged the accord,” HURIWA stated.
“While Fubara complied with the President’s directive and withdrew a critical legal matter in a gesture of reconciliation, Wike continued to pursue multiple suits in various courts, culminating in a controversial judgment declaring his factional speaker as legitimate.
