Val Obienyem
The principal reason I do not wish to see Reno appointed as an Ambassador is that it would send the wrong message to the younger generation – that sycophancy is a virtue worth emulating. Should such behaviour be rewarded? Certainly not.
Beyond this, Reno would make a thoroughly poor ambassador. His writings and public utterances betray an alarming lack of maturity, both in thought and in conduct. An ambassador, by definition, ought to embody not only diplomacy but also intellectual depth and emotional restraint – qualities Reno conspicuously lacks.
I have perused many of his writings, and I am compelled to ask: why is he so desperate to present himself as a scholar, when he is patently not one? His approach to knowledge is clumsily pedantic; he confuses the mere accumulation of information with genuine understanding. In truth, he exhibits a superficial grasp of complex issues, mistaking verbosity for erudition.
