Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu has called on corporate bodies in the state to reinvigorate the spirit of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in their managerial policies.
The commissioner made the call while commending the Managing Director of JEZCO Oil West Africa (WA) Limited, Chief J. J. Eze Okafor who presented 10 laptop computers to the Ministry of Transport, Anambra State.
He said, “CSR is very rare in this clime and this is why when my colleague (the Commissioner for Transport) told me that a company is here to do CSR, I went ‘wao’ and wondered if such can happen here?
“I raced straight here with my team of reporters and photographers because it is a newsworthy item and we believe that other Corporate personalities we have in this state can emulate this example.’’
The Commissioner for Transport, Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike who also was filled with awe commended Chief Eze-Okafor for keeping to his promise of gifting the Ministry the laptop computers.
“He was here last week and just in passing I mentioned that we need laptops and he commented that in today’s world that we live in a digital world and that he will do his best to ensure that we have the basic working tools.
“It comes from the same make of the rule as our principal; the governor and this afternoon, his team walked in and surprised us with these 10 laptops.
“I am simply overjoyed because I thought it was one of those Nigerian things of promise and fail but he brought his own to fulfilment.’’
Representatives of the donor, Nze Azubuike Ezechukwu who led the team presented the gifts to the Transport commissioner.
Other notable individuals at the presentation were, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Louisa Ezeanya and representatives from JEZCO Group of Companies, namely: Chief Nebechukwu Ezeneto and Mr. Izuu Ogwata. (MOI)
