The Commissioner for information, Mr. Paul Nwosu has urged journalists to be diligent in their work while they educate Ndi Anambra on the importance of improving the economy of the state by way of paying tax.
Nwosu said this when the Nigerian Union ofJournalists (NUJ) Anambra Chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
The Commissioner urged journalists to work hard while they pursue their course and to enlighten Ndi Anambra to pay their taxes at the right place to get authentic receipt.
According to him, this would improve the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) so that government can continue with the various development projects mapped out.
He promised journalists of his support in making sure that they work harmoniously, ensuring that the government supports and grants all their needs.
He also promised to help get sponsors from Ministry of Health for the NUJ Health Week, explaining that journalists must be mentally and physically sound when working, else the industry would ‘lose the person’s wealth of experience’.
The Chairman, NUJ Chapter Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu explained that the purpose for their visit was to familiarise with the new commissioner and to solicit his support for the upcoming NUJ Health Week.
Odogwu also acquainted the Commissioner on some of the challenges and needs of the journalists, which the commissioner promised to tackle.
The Chairman of the Health Week Committee, Mrs. Chinyere-Fessy Okoye, explained that the event was being organised in respect to those who died on the job due to health issues .
“It is important that we know how to take care of ourselves while we work, which is the purpose of organising the event,” she stressed.
According to her, the event would future lectures and medical healthcare.
NUJ Health Week would hold on July 27 at the Godwin Ezeemo Event Centre behind CBN, Awka.
