The Labour Party (LP) has indefinitely suspended Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, Senators Ireti Kingibe and Darlington Nwokocha, along with three other party members, citing alleged anti-party activities.
In a statement issued by National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the party announced that the suspension takes immediate effect, barring the affected individuals from all Labour Party activities. The decision follows the findings of a five-member disciplinary committee, which was formed on May 2, 2025, by the National Executive Council (NEC) to investigate allegations of disloyalty and breaches of party rules.
The committee, led by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, submitted its report to the party leadership, which ratified the recommendations after extensive deliberations. As a result, the following members have been suspended indefinitely:
• Dr. Alex Otti
• Senator Ireti Kingibe
• Senator Darlington Nwokocha
• Hon. Victor Afam Ogene
• Hon. Amobi Ogah
• Hon. Seyi Sowunmi
The party also clarified that Nenadi Usman, who had been speculated to be among the affected, is not a Labour Party member and therefore not subject to disciplinary measures.
Additionally, the Labour Party reaffirmed its independence, stating that it will not be joining any political coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party emphasized its commitment to contesting the elections as a standalone entity, dismissing any discussions on potential alliances.
This development marks a significant shake-up within the Labour Party, highlighting ongoing internal tensions and strategic realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.
