In a swift response to the abduction of the Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) President, Mr. Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the Imo Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt to apprehend the culprits.
DSP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement released on Sunday. He emphasized that Igboayaka was not arrested but remains missing. “The Imo Police Command has initiated an investigation to determine the whereabouts of the OYC President, Comrade Igboayaka,” Okoye stated.
The police have called on anyone with valuable information to come forward promptly.
According to eyewitnesses, Igboayaka was abducted around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday by a group of gunmen dressed in black. The assailants, numbering about seven, arrived at the scene in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV before forcibly taking Igboayaka away. Efforts by OYC members, family, and friends to reach him since the incident have been unsuccessful, with his mobile lines remaining switched off.
Reacting to the incident, Mr. Chilos Godsent, President of the Igbo National Council (INC), urged the police to swiftly identify and apprehend the gunmen responsible for Igboayaka’s abduction. “His followers, family, and friends are in confusion. They need to know his whereabouts as soon as possible,” Godsent appealed.
The search for Igboayaka continues, and the community remains hopeful for his safe return.
