The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has called on youths from the South-West and South-East regions to join the armed forces to foster national unity and inclusivity. Commander of the 115 Operations Group, NAF Port Harcourt, Group Capt. Abdulafeez Opaleye, made the appeal during the maiden Open Day event marking the 2025 NAF Day celebration. Opaleye highlighted the underrepresentation of southern youths in the military and emphasized the importance of diversity in strengthening national cohesion. He noted that the armed forces belong to all Nigerians and urged young people to seize the opportunity to serve their country. The Open Day event, attended by over 1,000 guests, was designed to improve civil-military relations and provide insights into NAF operations. Opaleye underscored the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar’s efforts in modernizing the Air Force, including the recent winging of 35 new pilots in Kaduna to enhance operational capacity. Additionally, Opaleye reported a decline in illegal bunkering and oil theft in the Niger Delta, attributing the success to joint security operations supported by air force surveillance and intervention. The NAF remains committed to defending Nigeria’s airspace and encourages youths from all regions to enlist and contribute to national security.
