The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) has marked its 70 years anniversary with the theme “Weekend of service to humanity” and the NAS Onitsha Chapter used this opportunity to lend a hand to the society throughout the weekend.
Celebrating the Septogenerian anniversary, NAS Onitsha Chapter went to Washington Memorial Grammar school and presented them with some writing materials: books, textbooks, drawing books, technical equipments, sets square, drawing boards, whiteboards, dictionaries, others as ways of giving back to the society.
Delivering his message, Engr. Emeka Uwaechia, President NAS Onitsha Chapter expressed his passion toward rendering service to humanity, noting that their commitment to lend a hand to mankind is one of their cardinal objectives as an association.
“We are a helping hand to the needy, our contribution to the national development through various advocacies and humanitarian projects strives to attain a just society.
“We are here to celebrate with you as we mark our 70 years of service to humanity by giving out to the school these few study materials and technical equipment which will help improve the education standards in the school.” he said.
He noted that they discovered that they lack introductory technology books and technical equipments in the school which led the association to make a commitment to equip the school with some of these technical equipment.
The gesture he said would help to improve the technical ability of the students and enable them to become great engineers, geologist and scientists in the future.
The group also awarded scholarship to JSS2 and SS2 students till they graduate from the school.
In his welcome speech, the Principal, Mr David Chukwurah, described the occasion as a happy one, noting that this was not the first visitation and presentation of gifts by NAS to their school.
“We appreciate your efforts and we thank you for the stationeries and technical equipments which you have brought. These items will help the students to improve their learning and understanding in the school.
“I use this opportunity to encourage all the students of this great school to focus on their studies, be determined to graduate and be among the best students so that you can become relevant and helpful to the society just like the NAS group.”
The principal assured that the books, study materials and scholarships provided by NAS would be giving out free of charge to the best-performing and less privileged students in each class.
The school Head Boy, Innocent Ikobi thanked the association on behalf of the entire school, for their unending support and for giving them these reading materials.
“I am so happy because of everything they have been doing for the school. These items especially the technical drawing tools and mathematics sets are what we needed most in the school at the moment.”
He also expressed his gratitude for the scholarship that was awarded to JSS2 and SS2 students throughout their time in the school, praying that God would continue to bless NAS and increase their pockets. (MOI)
